Notes

Bigfruit evening-primrose (Oenothera macrocarpa) is a perennial for rock gardens, ground cover, and xeriscape. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Its large yellow flowers open in the evening and close the next day, but the plant blooms over a long period. Deer tend to browse other plants first. The gray-green leaves form a low mound.

Pairs well with Creeping phlox, Blue grama, and Blue sage.
