Notes

Texas rainbow cactus (Echinocereus dasyacanthus) is a succulent for borders, containers, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy or loamy soil. The stem is oval at first, then turns cylindrical and grows about 15 inches tall, with pale yellow to orange flowers that attract bees. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. You can add it to a sunny bed for easy care.

Pairs well with Aeonium, Lady fingers, and Autumn moor grass.
