Notes

Strawberry hedgehog cactus (Echinocereus stramineus) is a succulent for borders, containers, and xeriscape gardens. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 10 and warmer, down to about 30°F (-1°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy or loamy soil. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Its stems cluster into compact, rounded clumps, and bees visit the purple-red flowers.

Pairs well with Narrow-leaf chalksticks, American century plant, and Arp rosemary.
