Notes

'The King' coneflower (Echinacea purpurea 'The King') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, pollinator gardens, and meadows. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Rose red petals surround a brown cone from early to late summer, and butterflies, bees, and birds visit the blooms. Deer tend to browse other plants first. It grows 48 to 72 inches tall, so give it room at the back of a bed.

Pairs well with Prairie Sun rudbeckia, Standing Ovation little bluestem, Moonshine yarrow, and Nodding onion.
