Notes

'Verdun' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Verdun') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The single, crimson-red flowers open in early summer and have a dark red color. The plant has a medium habit, so it fits well in the middle of a bed. Auguste Dessert bred it in 1927.

Pairs well with Virginia spiderwort, Royal fern, Pink Impression tulip, and Black chokeberry.
