Notes

'Viking' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Viking') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its full double flowers are dark red and open late in spring. The stiff stems hold the blooms upright, and the cut flowers keep well in a vase. Edward Auten, Jr bred it.

Pairs well with Siberian iris, New England aster, and Sensitive fern.
