Notes

Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) is a vine for privacy screens, ground cover, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet soil of most types. It climbs by tendrils with adhesive tips, so it needs no support and does not damage buildings. It sits low on the menu for deer. Birds eat the fruit through the winter, and the leaves turn mauve, red, and purple in early fall.

Pairs well with Solomon's seal, Red cedar, Sensitive fern, and Indian grass.

Native range

Eastern United States to Mexico.
