Notes
Walter's violet (Viola walteri) is a perennial for shade gardens, woodland plantings, ground cover, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy or loamy soil. It spreads by rhizomes and runners, but only with enough moisture. In drier soil it stays widely spaced. Purple flowers open in late winter and spring and attract butterflies and bees.
Pairs well with Foam flower, Goldenseal, and Lady fern.
