Notes

Weeping yaupon holly (Ilex vomitoria) is an evergreen shrub for specimen planting, hedges, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet soil of most types. Female plants bear bright red berries, but you need a male plant nearby to get fruit. Birds eat the berries and nest in the dense branches. Deer tend to pass it by.

Pairs well with Carolina jessamine, Mondo grass, and Red maple.

Native range

Southeastern United States and Mexico.
