Notes

'Whipcord' western arborvitae (Thuja plicata 'Whipcord') is a shrub for borders, containers, and specimen plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet soil of most types. Its columnar shape and fragrant evergreen foliage add winter interest, and birds visit it. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Give it room to grow about 48 to 60 inches tall and wide.

Pairs well with American holly, Karl Foerster feather reed grass, and Autumn fern.
