Notes

'Akalu' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Akalu') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The large Japanese type flowers have dark rose-pink guard petals and a center of rose-red staminodes edged with buff. They open in mid to late spring and early summer. Auguste Dessert bred it, and it has vigorous growth.

Pairs well with Incrediball hydrangea, Cinnamon fern, and Carnaval De Nice tulip.
