Notes
'Alabama Slammer' avens (Geum quellyon 'Alabama Slammer') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, containers, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. It forms a mound 12 to 24 inches tall and 12 inches wide. Blooms open in spring and again in summer, and they draw butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees.
Pairs well with Obsidian coral bells, Sedge, and Queen of Night tulip.
