Notes

'Alexander' inkberry (Ilex glabra 'Alexander') is an evergreen shrub for hedges, privacy screens, winter interest, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, sandy or clay soil. It grows slowly, and bees, butterflies, and birds visit its spring and summer blooms. It is not a favorite of rabbits, though hungry rabbits will eat almost anything. Drought and salt do not bother it.

Pairs well with Swamp milkweed, Cinnamon fern, Big bluestem, and Witch hazel.
