Notes

Anise magnolia (Magnolia salicifolia) is a tree for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The fragrant flowers open in early to late spring, and butterflies and bees visit them. It grows best in acid to neutral soil.

Pairs well with Persian violet, Lily of the valley, and Excelsior Spanish bluebell.
