Notes

'Apache' peony (Paeonia 'Apache') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Harold E. Wolfe bred it, and Bigger Peony Farm introduced it in 1966. The single red flowers are fragrant, and they attract butterflies and bees. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Plants reach about three feet tall on fine stems.

Pairs well with American Gold Rush black-eyed Susan, Cheerfulness daffodil, Blue grama, and Fire Island hosta.
