Notes

'Appanoose' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Appanoose') is a perennial for borders, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Willis J. Smith bred it as a seedling of 'Richard Carvel'. It bears fragrant red bomb type blooms in early to mid spring. It is a dependable bloomer.

Pairs well with Great blue lobelia, Prairie dropseed, and Ostrich fern.
