autumn crocus
Colchicum speciosum
A.M.-R.H.S. 1973

Notes
Autumn crocus (Colchicum speciosum) is a bulb. The flowers range from pale rosy purple to deep rosy purple. Each bloom has orange-yellow anthers. This bulb flowers in autumn, so it brings color to the garden late in the year. The leaves are hairless, so the foliage looks smooth and clean. Plant the bulbs where you can enjoy the fall color up close.
Pairs well with Walker's Low catmint, Sweet alyssum, and Japanese maple.
Native range
N Turkey, Iran, and USSR (Caucasus).
