Notes

'Autumn Embers' Ozark witch hazel (Hamamelis vernalis 'Autumn Embers') is a shrub for borders, specimens, winter interest, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, clay soil. Fragrant copper red flowers open in winter and early spring and attract bees. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The dense shrub grows at a moderate rate and reaches 8 to 10 feet tall.

Pairs well with Bottlebrush buckeye, Cardinal flower, and Big bluestem.
