Notes

'Avondale' Chinese redbud (Cercis chinensis 'Avondale') is a tree for specimen planting, borders, containers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Rose purple flowers cover the branches in early to late spring. Bees, butterflies, and birds visit the plant, and the leaves turn color in fall.

Pairs well with Bloodgood Japanese maple, Bartzella peony, and Ornamental onion.
