Notes
'Bertha' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Bertha') is a perennial for borders, perennial beds, and cut flower gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It bears red blooms, so it adds bold color to a sunny border or a cut flower bouquet. H.A. Terry bred it in 1905.
Pairs well with Siberian iris, Incrediball Storm Proof smooth hydrangea, and Garlic chives.
