birthwort

Notes

Birthwort (Aristolochia leuconeura) is a vine for fragrance, evergreen cover, and climbing on trellises. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. It can climb 12 to 15 feet tall and stays narrow, so a sturdy support works well. Red flowers open in early to mid summer.

Pairs well with Nightshade, Giant chain fern, and Gerbera daisy.

Costa Rica, Colombia, and Peru.
