Notes

'Black Beauty' black elderberry (Sambucus nigra 'Black Beauty') is a shrub for borders, hedges, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. It grows fast and bears fragrant blooms from early to late summer. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Butterflies and birds also visit it.

Pairs well with Ostfriesland sage, Purple Sensation ornamental onion, and Alexander loosestrife.
