Notes

'Black Tower' blue elderberry (Sambucus nigra 'Black Tower') is a shrub for borders, specimen plantings, and hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Fragrant pink flowers open from early to late summer and draw butterflies and birds. The dark purple leaves grow on multi-stemmed plants that reach 6 to 8 feet tall and wide at a rapid pace.

Pairs well with Serviceberry, Meadowsweet, Ostrich fern, and Prairie dropseed.
