Notes

'Blue Star' gentian (Gentiana makinoi 'Blue Star') is a perennial for front borders, rock gardens, pollinator gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and moist soil. Blue flowers appear from early to late summer and attract bees. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Give it a little shade from hot afternoon sun.

Pairs well with Rozanne crane's-bill, Aureola Japanese forest grass, and Autumn fern.
