Notes

Spring gentian (Gentiana verna) is a perennial for containers and low-maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. It stays evergreen and blooms in early to late spring, with more flowers in early to late summer. Butterflies visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Pasque flower, Rock cress, and Hens and chicks.
