Notes

'Bnmtf' river birch (Betula nigra 'Bnmtf') is a tree for specimen planting, privacy screens, winter interest, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast and forms several trunks, and butterflies and birds visit the tree. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. Once settled, it tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Red twig dogwood, Joe-pyeweed, and Cinnamon fern.
