Notes

'Heritage' river birch (Betula nigra 'Heritage') is a multi-trunked tree for specimen planting, winter interest, rain gardens, and woodland edges. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet soil of most types. It grows at a rapid rate and draws butterflies and birds. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The peeling bark gives it interest in winter.

Pairs well with Cinnamon fern, Red twig dogwood, Great blue lobelia, and Sedge.
