'Break o’ Day' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Break o’ Day') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The mid season flowers are dark rose with large rounded guard petals. A dark red cushion of long, gold tipped staminodes sits at the center. The blooms keep well after cutting.
Pairs well with Nodding onion, Prairie dropseed, Tickseed, and Christmas fern.
