Notes

'Butterfly' Japanese maple (Acer palmatum 'Butterfly') is a tree for borders, containers, specimen planting, and woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows slowly into a broad shape and shows fall color, and bees and birds visit it. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Once settled, it handles dry spells.

Pairs well with Amsonia, American hornbeam, and Bracken.
