Notes

California barberry (Berberis pinnata) is an evergreen shrub for borders, hedges, and woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. Yellow flowers appear through the year, and butterflies and birds visit them. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The shiny green leaves stay on the plant all year.

Pairs well with Wild ginger, Pacific bleeding heart, Alum root, and Ocean spray.
