Notes

'Campfire' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Campfire') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The fragrant red blooms open from mid to late spring into early summer. Stiff stems hold the flowers up on a short, dwarf plant. Edward Auten, Jr bred it from a seedling of 'Edulis Superba'.

Pairs well with Rock soapwort, Smooth aster, Prairie dropseed, and Grape hyacinth.
