Notes
'Captain J.' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Captain J.') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Single pink blooms with a yellow center open early mid-season. The flowers are the size of a plate. Straight, strong stems about four feet tall carry them, so the plant works well in the landscape.
Pairs well with Magnus coneflower, June hosta, and Blue grama.
