Notes
Catchfly (Silene coronaria) is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. Rose magenta flowers open in spring and again in summer, and they attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Its silvery gray foliage stays evergreen and handles dry spells well.
Pairs well with Blue fescue, Purple Coneflower coneflower, and Stargazer lily.
Native range
Southeastern Europe.
