Notes

Chalk maple (Acer leucoderme) is a tree for shade gardens, pollinator gardens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. It grows slowly to about 25 feet and usually has 2 or 3 trunks. The smooth, chalky bark looks whitish, and the fall leaves turn bright colors.

Pairs well with Oakleaf hydrangea, Christmas fern, American holly, and Green and gold.
