Notes

'Chief Black Hawk' peony (Paeonia 'Chief Black Hawk') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its dark velvety-red, fragrant flowers are semi-double and 5 inches wide, and bees and butterflies visit them. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Roger F. Anderson bred it.

Pairs well with Rainforest Sunrise hosta, Nodding onion, and Blonde Ambition blue grama.
