Notes
'Claret' greater masterwort (Astrantia major 'Claret') is a perennial for borders and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to wet soil of most types. Its wine red flowers open in spring and again in summer, and butterflies visit them. It sits low on the menu for deer.
Pairs well with Swamp milkweed, Ostrich fern, and Tickseed.
