Notes
Largest masterwort (Astrantia maxima) is a perennial for borders, with pink pincushion flowers that rise above a mound of green leaves. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. The long lasting flower heads reach 2 to 3 inches wide and bloom in spring and summer. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers.
Pairs well with Monkshood, Festiva Maxima peony, and Tall fescue.
