Notes

Climbing rose (Rosa setigera) is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, and hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its canes climb or trail, so give it a spot where it can ramble. The pink single flowers fade to near-white and are fragrant. Birds relish the red fruit.

Pairs well with Little bluestem, Blue wild indigo, and Red cedar.

Native range

Eastern and central North America.
