Notes

Crested wood fern (Dryopteris cristata) is a fern for shade gardens, woodland settings, rain gardens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, loamy or clay soil. The sterile fronds stay green through winter, while the larger fertile fronds fall over. Deer rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Bunchberry, Rosea lily of the valley, and Emerald Green arborvitae.
