Notes
'Dakota' peony (Paeonia 'Dakota') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its fragrant, scarlet and orange-red flowers have a prominent yellow center and draw butterflies and bees. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Edward Auten, Jr bred it.
Pairs well with June hosta, Coralbells, and Little bluestem.
