Notes

'Dark Eyes' peony (Paeonia 'Dark Eyes') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Chris Laning bred it in 1996, and its dark purple, almost black flowers have a bright yellow center of stamens. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. The dark green foliage stays green until killing frost in fall.

Pairs well with First Frost hosta, Eastern columbine, Stargazer lily, and Blue grama.
