De Candolle peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'de Candolle') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It bears double red flowers that add bold color to a sunny bed. The blooms also work well in a vase indoors. Philippe-Victor Verdier bred it.
Pairs well with Siberian iris, Magnus coneflower, and Stargazer lily.
