Notes

Eastern wahoo (Euonymus atropurpureus) is a shrub for hedges, privacy screens, rain gardens, and low maintenance planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to moist soil of most types. Crimson pods split in mid-autumn to show scarlet-coated seeds that hang on far into winter. Root suckers may be pulled off if you want a single-stemmed tree.

Pairs well with Smooth hydrangea, Spotted joe-pye weed, and Sensitive fern.

Eastern North America.
