Notes
False yucca (Hesperaloe parviflora) is a succulent for borders, rock gardens, xeriscapes, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Coral flowers on arching pink stems attract hummingbirds, and the blooms also draw night-pollinating moths. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The evergreen leaves turn plum-colored in winter.
Pairs well with Prairie dropseed, Ice plant, and Karl Foerster feather reed grass.
Native range
Northeastern Mexico and southwestern Texas.
