Notes
Ice plant (Hylotelephium spectabile) is a perennial for borders, rock gardens, containers, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It forms a tidy clump with blue-green leaves and pink blooms that age to copper. Butterflies and bees visit the flowers in late summer and autumn. Rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal.
Pairs well with Prairie dropseed, Blonde Ambition blue grama, and Nodding onion.
Native range
Central Asia, Asia, Manchuria, and Primorye.
