Notes

Clematis (Clematis montana) is a vine for pollinator gardens, privacy screens, and hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. White flowers with yellow stamens are fragrant, bloom in spring and again in summer, and attract butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds. It climbs fast, so give it a sturdy support. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits.

Pairs well with Columbine, Royal Purple smoketree, and Foxglove.

Native range

Himalayas to Taiwan and China.
