Notes

Fremont cottonwood (Populus fremontii) is a tree for shade gardens and low maintenance landscapes. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast and can gain 30 feet in one year. Choose a male tree to avoid cotton fluff in spring, since plants are either male or female.

Pairs well with Yerba mansa, California wild rose, and Sedge.
