Notes

White poplar (Populus alba) is a tree for hedges and privacy screens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist soil of most types. It grows fast and reaches 50 to 75 feet tall and wide. The leaves are green above and white beneath, so the tree shimmers in a breeze. Red male catkins and green female catkins open in spring.

Pairs well with Red pine, Hackberry, and Foxtail barley.

Native range

Europe and central Asia.
