Notes

'French Poppy' peony (Paeonia 'French Poppy') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its single red flowers are 7½ inches wide, face up, and hold their color well over a long bloom period. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. The flowers also bring in bees and butterflies.

Pairs well with Eastern columbine, Big Daddy hosta, Standing Ovation little bluestem, and Nodding onion.
