Notes

'Gallant Red' peony (Paeonia 'Gallant Red') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The Japanese type flowers are a rich dark red that does not fade, and stiff stems hold them up. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Edward Auten, Jr bred it in 1945.

Pairs well with Big Daddy hosta, Eastern columbine, Charles Joly lilac, and Standing Ovation little bluestem.
